Westport Public School was officially opened on Saturday 21st November 1970 by Mr D.B. Cowan M.L.A.
School Principal, Mr Max Heath along with teaching staff, Mr John Allen, Ms Lily Rosendahl, Ms Neryl Flowers, Mrs B Buchannan, Mr George Williams and Mrs Barbara Barnett opened the school and set the foundations for the long lasting school motto of Explore, Endeavour, Excel.
