Science and technology

Science and technology is mandatory for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In science and technology, students explore the natural and made worlds. They learn how to apply scientific and technological skills, knowledge and understanding across a broad range of contexts.

Science provides a way of inquiring about the world around us. It explores evidence and investigates ways to discover, develop and produce solutions to real world problems. The inquiry and skill-based nature of science opens doors to ideas and discoveries.

Technology

The school's computer education program aims to develop computer and related technologies skills across a range of classroom activities. Children use computers to publish stories, to create artwork, consolidate basic skills, to extend their creative faculties and to extend their learning across curriculum areas. iPads are used extensively throughout the school to support learning.

Each classroom is networked and the children are encouraged to use the internet to access information. Interactive whiteboards are installed in all classrooms.

The school's intranet provides the children with access to the school's information bank that includes curriculum materials and educational games. Digital cameras and scanners are used by the students to produce higher order presentations or to present their class projects in electronic formats

Before the children are able to access the internet, they are required to agree to adhere to the school's Internet User Policy. Inappropriate and/or unsuitable sites are inaccessible as they are blocked by the Education Department's service provider.
