Positive Behaviour and Learning

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is implemented to improve the learning and wellbeing of all students in all school settings.

At Westport Public School we deliver excellence in a welcoming, inclusive and caring environment. Our school values ensure that all students and staff are respected, safe and happy. Supportive staff challenge, inspire and promote learning as a lifelong endeavour, where students are provided with opportunities to excel and achieve their full potential as they explore 21st Century initiatives.

Great emphasis is placed upon all students  understanding and displaying our three values, spoken with the script.  Learners who are Respectful and Safe. PBL Matrix (pdf 314 KB)

Our three values are:

· Learners

· Respectful

· Safe

Students participate in weekly lessons where school-wide expectations are taught. When students are observed displaying appropriate school wide expectations, they are rewarded in a variety of ways.

Students can be awarded with dolphin points, house points, merit certificates and presentation awards. Each week at assembly two children from each house are awarded a Dolphin Dollar if their Dolphin Point is drawn from their house box.

Special end of term treat days are arranged for each Stage. Children who demonstrate at least eight out of ten weeks of appropriate behaviour are invited to attend the treat days. Behaviour cards are stamped each week for successful students.

We use a reward system which recognises exemplarily classroom and playground behaviour during each school year.

· 10 weekly stamps on their behaviour chart = a Bronze Award

· 20 weekly stamps on their behaviour chart = a Silver Award

· 30 weekly stamps on their behaviour chart = a Gold Award

· 35 stamps on their behaviour chart in a year = a Diamond Award
